Do you live in Windsor, ON and suffer from Tinnitus?

Did you know an estimated 9.2 million adult Canadians experience tinnitus each year?  If you experience noises like ringing, humming, buzzing, high-pitch screeching or even crickets like chirping are all a symptom of tinnitus. Fortunately, there are some possible solutions.

Tinnitus also known as “ringing in the ears” is the perception of sound that has no external source and can only be heard by the person experiencing it. This all comes from the auditory cortex in our brain.

People with hearing loss, cannot portray distinctive frequencies of sound.  Therefore, this creates a difficult listening environment. The straining enhances their sensitivity to tinnitus. Tinnitus is a symptom and not a disease. Some leading causes are hearing loss, wax impaction, medication, continuous exposure to loud noise, stress, and ear trauma.

The two types of tinnitus are:

  1. objective tinnitus (1% of tinnitus sufferers) – caused by medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney problems, or head injuries

  2. subjective tinnitus – caused by problems in your hearing system

The different types break down to what you’re hearing in your ear. Some people might think they have tinnitus, but it’s some fluid in their ears or wax moving around.

Tinnitus has been associated with anxiety and depression, insomnia, irritation, and stress.  The intensity or severity differs for each individual with symptoms. Unfortunately, there is no cure for tinnitusSome solutions can manage symptoms and ease the intensity possibly eliminating it.
